You should be ok with the mail file templates since they are new file names so they will not replicated.


The pubnames and other system templates are backward compatible so running a 9.x design on a 8.53 server will be fine.

I would let the upgrade redesign the traveler names.nsf and control that replication back to the 8.5.3 server to an off hour time so when the design does replicate over the indexer will have no issues updating the possible changes to the view.

You can through acl on the 8.5.3 prevent the 9.0 designs from flowing down to the system templates and names.nsf but I have found that it just best to prepare for it and let it happen
